University of Oxford has a highly competitive admission process for international students. The requirements vary depending on whether you are applying for an undergraduate or graduate programme.

1. Undergraduate Admission

Application route:
International students must apply through UCAS. For 2027 entry, the Oxford deadline is 15 October 2026 at 6:00 PM UK time. 

Academic requirements:

• Applicants must have an accepted qualification equivalent to UK A-levels.

• For Indian students, Oxford assesses accepted Indian qualifications and the grades required for the particular course.

• Academic requirements are generally very high and differ by course.

Important points for Indian Students

• CBSE and CISCE/ISC Class XII qualifications are accepted by Oxford.

• State Board examinations are currently not accepted as Oxford's school-leaving qualification.

• NIOS Class XII is not accepted.

• NEET and JEE scores are not accepted as Oxford entrance qualifications.

• Some courses require particular subjects, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology, at the appropriate level.

• Meeting the academic cut-off does not guarantee admission because Oxford is highly competitive.

• Certain courses also require an Oxford admissions test and/or written work, followed by an interview if shortlisted.

1. Reach Oxford Scholarship

This is one of the major Oxford scholarships available to Indian undergraduate applicants. India is included among the eligible countries. It can cover course fees, living costs and one return air fare per year for the duration of the course. Around 2–3 awards are normally made each year, making it extremely competitive. 

2. Felix Scholarship

The Felix Scholarship is particularly relevant for Indian students pursuing full-time Master's or DPhil programmes. At Oxford, it can cover 100% of course fees, approximately £19,000 toward living costs and one return flight from India to the UK. Up to 7 awards are available through the Oxford scheme. Applicants generally need a first-class undergraduate or master's degree from an Indian university and must demonstrate financial need. 

3. Clarendon Scholarship

The Clarendon Fund is one of Oxford's largest graduate scholarship schemes and is open to students of all nationalities, including Indian students. It provides full course-fee coverage plus a generous grant for living expenses. Applicants for eligible new Master's or DPhil courses are automatically considered when they apply by the relevant December or January funding deadline. 

4. Hilla Ginwala Scholarship

This scholarship is specifically available to Indian nationals applying for full-time graduate study at Oxford. All subjects can be considered, although there is a preference for modern languages. It is administered as part of Oxford's partnership awards associated with the Clarendon Fund. 

5. Oxford and Cambridge Society of India Scholarships

These are part-cost scholarships for eligible Indian students pursuing undergraduate, second-undergraduate, graduate or research study at Oxford or Cambridge. Indian citizens who are ordinarily resident in India can apply, subject to the scholarship's specific conditions.

However, Oxford does not have a separate placement quota or guaranteed placement programme specifically for Indian students.
